With its roots in the Italian language, the word “gala” means “feast” or “sumptuous celebration”. Initially, it was associated with the luxurious ceremonies and festivities of Renaissance Europe, organized by royal courts and aristocrats. The concept then evolved over time to define any ceremony or festive event.
A Gala is a special evening or ceremony that celebrates a particular event and honors outstanding achievements. It can raise funds for charity, or showcase an industry’s achievements. Aimed at a targeted audience, whether internal or external, it federates and entertains thanks to its festive atmosphere and often artistic performances!
An Annual General Meeting is a key moment in a company’s year. Indeed, it has a reputation for being a crucial event, where all members of the company are invited to gather.
An annual general meeting is a large gathering, usually held once a year. It is a meeting organized by the company’s shareholders and/or associates to discuss and debate decisions taken during the course of the year. It’s customary to invite all employees to attend, as the aim is to take stock of what’s been achieved and what’s gone wrong during the year.
Even if it only happens once a year, we’re always enthusiastic about the idea of tailoring your annual general meeting! Lulu is always thinking up new ideas to reinvent your events and make that annual review a memorable one!
Product launches and inaugurations are very popular in the big basket of events. Indeed, they are often festive events, tinged with a hint of stress and excitement at the idea of revealing a new product or venue to the public!
A product launch or inauguration is a strategic event whose aim is to present, inform, seduce, convince and persuade people to buy a new product or service. It’s all about finding the right message, the right place, the right time, and getting the word out about our event, while keeping the suspense on the reveal! It’s an event that represents an emotional moment, and marks the start of something new.
Another event we love at Lulu! We regularly organize product launches or inaugurations, and each time it’s an opportunity to create a tailor-made experience! For example, the launch of the new Métrie collection is a perfect example of the boundless creativity and elegance of Lulu événements!
Awards ceremonies have been around for years, and for all kinds of rewards. And when we talk about awards, how can we not mention the famous Nobel Prize. Surely one of the most famous prize-giving events in the world, the Nobel Prize is an eagerly-awaited event every year! Since 1901 (and not just yesterday!), the Nobel Prizes have been awarded to people “who have brought the greatest benefit to mankind” (that’s all there is to it!).
An awards ceremony is an evening to reward people for their achievements. They exist for all types of awards, and make for a festive evening of joy and celebration! They’re often an opportunity to get everyone together, pay tribute, congratulate and celebrate! Awards ceremonies are very popular in the business world!
Admittedly, we haven’t yet organized the Nobels Awards, but at Lulu, we know a thing or two about award ceremonies! In fact, we love celebrating victories! We organize them every year and strive to make each ceremony unique and unforgettable, without forgetting to add the Lulu touch. In fact, every year, the AFFQ trusts us to organize a beautiful awards ceremony that puts women in the spotlight, and every year, Lulu creates a new, tailor-made experience!
Very much in vogue in recent years, team building is the ideal opportunity to strengthen the bonds within your teams! Team building (or incentive) originated in the United States around the middle of the last century. They became popular following studies, research and theories on the link between performance and team dynamics.
Team building is a type of event designed to strengthen cohesion within a company and motivate teams. They are also a great way of integrating new recruits or boosting productivity. They are often playful activities that bring the group together around a common goal, or an activity that gets people out of the office!
As you can imagine, Lulu events is a big fan of team building. Whether it’s to strengthen the bonds of the Lulus team, or to strengthen the bonds of your own teams, team building is always a great way to get the most out of team life. For example, for the Prestilux team, Lulu organized an off-the-beaten-track activity. For the occasion, we placed the company’s values at the heart of a game: employees had to shoot short films as a team, using TV series and/or films, to portray the chosen values! We still have such fond memories of it!
Today, when we hear the word seminar, we think of work, we think of suits and we think of companies. In reality, the term “seminar” has an etymological origin that goes back to the Latin “semarium”, meaning “place where seeds are sown”. Originally, it was mainly associated with training establishments for Catholic priests!
A corporate seminar is an internal work meeting held outside the usual framework, with the aim of bringing teams together around a common project or a pre-defined topic to be dealt with throughout the seminar. Hence the idea of planting seeds! The aim can be to train, reflect on common orientations, take stock or improve inter-company communication.
At Lulu, we know all about seminars! We organized all the logistics for a corporate seminar at the Grand Quai in the Port of Montreal. The objective? Bring together over 500 employees from across Canada to share upcoming objectives and unveil D.E.I. initiatives. Each participant left enriched with unforgettable memories.
Conventions are one of the mainstays of the event industry. In existence since the second half of the 19th century, congresses were originally events organized by scientists or international organizations to keep abreast of the progress of discoveries and work in the field.
Today, a congress is more broadly defined as an inter-professional event that brings together hundreds or even thousands of people around a common theme. The aim is to bring together professionals from a given field in the same place and, generally for one day, enable them to exchange ideas, interact and meet each other!
At Lulu, we love conventions! In 2023, we had the honor of orchestrating Canada’s largest gathering devoted to artificial intelligence: the All In conference, powered by Scale AI. This massive event brought together over 2,000 people to showcase Canadian expertise in artificial intelligence!
Particularly popular in 17th-century European academic circles, the word “colloque” historically referred to an informal gathering of people to discuss academic or intellectual topics. Symposium, on the other hand, was originally a social gathering where men came together to drink wine, eat and discuss philosophical or literary topics. The two terms are therefore synonymous 😉
In event management, a colloquium is a multidisciplinary meeting of professionals or specialists in a given field, the aim of which is to study a specific issue and disseminate the results of research work. A symposium is a similar type of event, but organized around a single discipline, usually scientific. It’s a great opportunity for debate!
At Lulu, we’ve done our share of colloquia and symposia! In fact, in 2022, Lulu Événements organized a symposium for a group of accounting firms to bring all their associates together for lectures and discussions on accounting. It was the perfect opportunity for their team to get together and debate a variety of topics.
The word “fair” has a very long history, dating back to antiquity. Indeed, fairs have always been commercial events where merchants gather to buy, sell and trade goods. In medieval times, fairs were often accompanied by entertainment, games and shows. Today, with the advent of modern times, the importance of trade fairs has evolved.
In event management, a trade fair is a commercial event held on regular dates throughout the year, during which new products or innovations from various sectors are exhibited. The very principle of trade fairs hasn’t changed much, but their scope has: they’ve become more specialized and organized on a more regular and structured basis.
Unfortunately, at Lulu, we haven’t yet organized a trade fair as such, but we’ll soon! To take the example of the Artificial Intelligence Conference, which is part fair, part conference and part exhibition, it was the perfect opportunity to showcase the various innovations taking place in this sector!
Of course, we’re not talking about the salon at home here, but about salons in the events industry! Historically, the term “salon” dates back to 17th-century France. Initially, it refers to social gatherings organized by influential hosts, where guests met to converse, exchange ideas and take part in cultural activities.
Unlike a trade show, a salon is themed. A quality trade show is generally the local, national or international economic reflection of a sector of activity, a specific market or a concept. Welcoming the most advanced or innovative players, it reveals the latest trends and brings together qualified visitors and buyers. Tradeshows are often distinguished according to the audience they attract.
At Lulu, trade shows are our hobby! In February 2024, we were the major sponsor of the Salon Expérience les Affaires, which brought together all the professionals in the event industry. In addition to presenting the show, we also had a futuristic-looking booth on site to meet with current and potential customers!
And there you have it! Now you know (almost) everything there is to know about event vocabulary! If you’d like to take a look at some of our Lulu creations, feel free to follow us on all our social networks and refer to our portfolio for more information.
